TORSOLO – a proposal for a prototype of bioplastic objects made from apple peel
Torsolo proposes a prototype for bioplastic objects. Recent advancements in materials research have enabled the development of an environmentally friendly process to produce bioplastics from apple waste, such as apple peels. This bioplastic offers a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics like PET. Using light, oxygen, and specialized nanocatalysts, the bio-based substance HMF is efficiently converted into the plastic building block DFF—a cost-effective and eco-friendly replacement for petroleum-based polymers.
Torsolo is an integral part of a broader initiative led by J.MAYER.H. Rooted in an imperceptible rectangular cosmic grid that spans the entire globe, distinctive organic elements emerge sporadically.
These elements vary in scale and function, serving both as architectural structures and sculptural forms. The collection includes notable projects such as the Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain; the pier tower in Lazika, Georgia; the Off.Spring sculpture in Ostfildern; and the upcoming DROPSsquare in Ingolstadt, Germany.
Torsolo extends this evolving family of objects. Each piece embodies a digital presence within physical space, creating connections that transcend borders—linking countries and continents. This innovative approach represents a compelling fusion of the digital realm with tangible reality.
