Constance, Germany

Recent innovations in technological infrastructure offer new potentials for urban design. This Telekom high-rise and technical buildings from the 1970s at Constance’s city center is thus no longer needed in its former function and will be transformed into a residential development. J.MAYER.H´s competition proposal extends the existing tower with an additional layer with a self-supporting timber structure for balconies and outdoor spaces to enjoy the spectacular panorama over Lake Constance. On the ground floor, this exterior spatial and structural grid offers public areas, communal spaces, and cafés that mediate between the popular park of the St. Gebhard Platz and the renovated existing buildings.
