HOUSE OF PRAYER AND LEARNING

The “House of One” is an open house with three religions under one roof. Housed in a single building, a church, a synagogue, and a mosque are wrapped with a soft façade.

The House of Prayer and Learning is planned as a solitary building on Gertraudenstrasse. The project consists in creating a spatial connection between three monotheistic religions on the unique site at Petriplatz, which was once the location of Petrikirche (St. Peter’s Church). The design is resolutely modern, and cannot be classified as belonging to any one of the various religious cultures. The result is something new that is open and free to anyone and can be understood as a place for dialogue and discourse. The structure’s free form is equally visible and present on all sides. The building’s ground floor hovers over the archaeological excavation site; moving upwards, the outer shell develops dynamically into concise waves.
