beat.wave served as an entry gate to PULSE Miami 2007 with an undulating arch that is about eleven-feet high. Cantilevered, split and sliced, this ambivalent structure offered seating areas as a meeting point and a place for contemplation. beat.wave sought to test absurd geometries in a digital design and production process. Contractors were only provided with the outline of a 3D-digital model and asked to offer structural and material solutions. Recent developments in digital design and computerized production, short-cutting experience and skill, challenge us to rethink conventional concepts of design and craft. beat.wave playfully tested the potential of new models of collaboration.
